![The image shows two jars; the one on the left shows the food waste before it is processed on the rocket, which has red and yellow colours, and the one on the right is brown compost.](https://students.senecapolytechnic.ca/attachment?file=29eE913HkMuHnrm9EBfJog%3D%3D)Instead of contributing to climate change with the methane gas that food waste creates, Seneca is composting it. The Rocket® is a machine at King and Newnham campuses that composts the organic waste collected from the dining service areas at Seneca. This waste is combined with woodchips in the Rocket’s enclosed system where access to pests is prevented. The machine’s high heat process destroys pathogens and transforms the waste into nutrient-rich compost in 14 days. Together, the two rockets can process about 215 liters of organic material per day that’s later used on campus for landscaping.
