# Remembrance Day at Seneca

Remembrance Day is marked each year on the eleventh day of the eleventh month at the eleventh hour. At that time, Canada observes two minutes of silence for those who have defended and continue to defend our country.

**Ceremonies on campus**

Everyone is welcome to attend Remembrance Day ceremonies on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 10:45 a.m. at:

- King Campus ­— Northern Hive, Magna Hall
- Newnham Campus — Cenotaph, north of Parking Lot 2, outside of Building A+
- Peterborough Campus — Main Hangar
- Seneca@York Campus — The Hive

**Flags at half-mast**

Flags at Seneca’s campuses will be flown at half-mast from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

**Why we remember**

The first Remembrance Day was held in 1919 throughout the Commonwealth. Originally called Armistice Day, it commemorated the end of the First World War on Monday, Nov. 11, 1918.

[Veterans Affairs Canada](http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/REMEMBRANCE) and the [Canadian War Museum](http://www.warmuseum.ca/cwm/exhibitions/remember/remembranceday_e.shtml) established Remembrance Day sites that further explore the history and meaning of the day.

**Pick up a poppy on campus**

In support of all veterans, Seneca has made cashless poppy boxes available at all campuses this month and will be making a donation to The Royal Canadian Legion. Students and employees are welcome to take a poppy \(and wear it throughout the month\) at the following locations:

**King Campus**

- Help Desk, Level 1, Magna Hall
- The Service Hub, Level 2, Garriock Hall
- Main entrance, Animal Health Building

**Newnham Campus**

- Welcome Desk, Level 2, Building A
- Executive Office, Level 3, Building A
- Starbucks, Level 3, Building A
- The Pond, Level 1, Building D

**Peterbourgh Campus**

- Main entrance

**Seneca@York Campus**

- SSF Office, Level 2
- Cafeteria, Level 1
- Welcome Desk, Level 1
