New Students

New Students

Welcome to Accessible Learning Services (ALS)!

If you are student with a disability (or suspected) disability, we can work with you to develop an individual accommodation plan to support your academic journey.

New students need to register with ALS to access accommodations and support.  ALS uses a flexible approach to registration for new students. Appointments can be virtual or in-person.

Depending on your preferred style, mode of delivery, individual needs and available documentation, students can choose their preferred access pathway:

I am a student who...

  • prefers direct interaction with the counsellor.

  • would like to ask questions and share your experiences and learn firsthand about the available supports and services

I am a student who...

  • prefers to not to meet directly with a counsellor.

  • would like to receive an email with your accommodation plan and information on accessing supports and services.

  • has appropriate documentation regarding disability related needs and is familiar with the accommodation process

I am a student who...

  • suspects they have a disability but lack documentation and is struggling academically

  • is unsure about the available supports and would like to gather information on how to obtain an assessment

If a new student selects a ‘digital review’ but the assigned Accessible Learning Services staff determines that a meeting would be a more appropriate fit to properly plan and support your needs, you will be contacted to schedule an appointment.

If a new student selects ‘first appointment’ and they do not provide disability documentation, the assigned Accessible Learning Service staff will adjust the appointment to a ‘consultation’ to obtain detailed historical information and assist you in obtaining fulsome documentation.

SKILLS ASSESSMENT testing accommodations

Skills Assessment is a tool to determine academic placement for your math class during your first semester of studies. This assessment is done after you have confirmed your offer of admission. Students can request accommodations for this assessment

PRE-ADMISSIONS testing accommodations

Mature applicants applying to a certificate, diploma or advanced diploma program, who have not provided transcripts will be invited to write the mature applicant test(s) to meet English and/or mathematics requirements for their programs.
