What are Learning Strategies?

A learning strategy is a deliberate, goal-oriented plan of action designed to improve your learning process. It involves using specific techniques to enhance understanding, retention, and performance in academic tasks.

Learning strategies help you:

  • Adapt how you learn to become more effective and efficient.
  • Harness neural plasticity: the brain’s ability to strengthen neural connections through practice. The more you engage a skill, the more proficient you become, enabling faster and deeper learning.
  • Identify and build on what works best for you, strengthening areas of difficulty and improving your overall academic performance.

By incorporating effective learning strategies, you’ll be better equipped to tackle challenges, improve areas of deficit, and reduce the need for intensive academic accommodations. These strategies help you learn more effectively, fostering independence and empowering you to succeed.

Feel free to explore the resources below to start integrating personalized strategies into your academic journey. If you have any questions or need additional support, your Accessibility Counsellor is always here to assist.
