BTT - Business Information Technology

Program Overview:

When you graduate from this two-year Business Information Technology graduate certificate program, you will be equipped to help shape how businesses manage their connected systems. As an IT professional, you will have the skills to analyze, design, and implement creative and effective cloud-based solutions using appropriate programming languages, databases, and data sources to meet current and future business needs. You will also have knowledge in programming and networking, making you fully capable of working individually or as part of a diverse team across all industries and sectors.

This program includes an optional work term where you can put your skills into practice and gain valuable work experience in the IT industry. You will also be given the opportunity to innovate through an enterprise project.

Program Learning Outcomes: 

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Install, configure, program and maintain IT applications, including operating and database management systems, to facilitate successful operations.
  • Customize and deploy software securely to facilitate ICT operations in a small business
  • Debug, document and troubleshoot applications to ensure effective functioning of ICT operations.
  • Evaluate the system requirements to develop and document ICT solutions that meet the client’s needs.
  • Interpret, create, and document information in a manner that ensures accurate and clear communication amongst all stakeholders.
  • Integrate and maintain software solutions that communicate over a network to enhance security and performance capability.
  • Develop and implement cloud based solutions using appropriate programming languages, databases and data sources to meet current and future business needs.
  • Apply principles of project management to plan, track, and present the progress of an ICT project
  • Create strategies to address legal, ethical and privacy issues in IT to mitigate business risks.
  • Develop personal and professional strategies to improve job performance and promote professional growth.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain networks in business settings to ensure effective operations.
  • Create ICT strategies for the successful planning and operation of a small to medium-sized enterprise
  • Assess business requirements against cost-benefit analysis to design and implement appropriate business information systems and applications.
  • Manage the secure operation and resiliency of ICT systems to maintain business continuity.
Optional Co-op:

Students meeting all academic requirements may have the opportunity to complete an optional work term(s) in a formal work environment. The work term(s) is similar in length to an academic semester and typically involves full-time work hours that may be paid or unpaid. In programs with limited work term opportunities, additional academic requirements and a passing grade on a communication assessment may be required for eligibility. Eligibility for participation does not guarantee work will be secured. Additional fees are required for those participating in the optional work term stream regardless of success in securing a work position.

• An overall GPA of 3.8 or higher

• Successful completion of all 1st and 2nd semester courses

• Students must not have any academic integrity violations

Admissions Requirements for Future Students:

  • Ontario university/college degree, college diploma, advanced diploma or equivalent.  Applicants with an equivalent combination of partial post secondary and related work experience may be considered for admission. A relevant resume and references must be provided.
  • English proficiency for graduate certificates
