Seneca supports the Ontario Human Rights Code in that the needs of students with disabilities must be accommodated to ensure equal access to educational services.

All requests for reasonable academic accommodation for students with temporary or permanent disabilities will be considered.

Seneca's Accessible Learning Services staff is bound by condition of employment and Ontario’s Personal Health Information Privacy Act (PHIPA) to safeguard privacy and the confidentiality of personal information.

Students will not have to provide a diagnosis to access or receive support from the Accessible Learning Services office.

Students will not be required to provide medical documentation directly to their professors to receive academic accommodations.

Requests for service from Accessible Learning Services implies consent for the collection, use and disclosure of personal information for purposes related to receiving and implementing services. In accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Commission (March 2016), disclosure of an Academic Accommodation Letter will be provided by this office directly to a student’s program/school. We encourage students to talk with their professor(s) as soon as possible to further the conversation, as needed.

All academic accommodations will be handled by the Accessible Learning Services office which will electronically provide the academic accommodation plan to the student, appropriate instructor, Chair, Co-ordinator, and Student Adviser.

Students requesting academic accommodation:

• will be required to have this medical certificate form (download as pdf or Word document) completed by an appropriate Regulated Health Professional. The completed form covers an assessment of functional limitations and its impact on the student’s ability to participate in post-secondary studies. A diagnosis is not required to access services and supports. 
• may have the option to complete tests, exams or assignments in a campus Test Centre or in their class without accommodations
• for OHRC related retroactive accommodation after a test or course completion will be given meaningful consideration (appropriate supporting documentation is required).

Efforts will be made to provide access to interim academic accommodations pending receipt of medical documentation.
