GitHub Repo Relocation

For current Seneca GitHub users who have their IDE set up for existing code, it simply involves reconfiguring the IDE to target the new location.

Please follow instructions below:

• • Using Visual Studio Code
  • Using Github Desktop
  • Using Gib Bash Shell

Using Visual Studio Code

1. Open Visual Studio Code. Click on "Terminal" and start a new terminal.
   
   
2. In the Terminal, run the git command "git remote -v" to see where is the origin configuration.
   
   
3. If it needs to point to the new GHEC, then find the origin URL and run command "git remote set-url origin https://github.com/(insert new origin repo here)" below.
   
   
4. Additionally check to ensure the login credentials in Visual Studio Code is also updated for extensions. If still using the github.senecapolytechnic.ca userid, Sign Out, and Sign in again to the https://github.com/Seneca-Polytechnic

Using GitHub Desktop

1. Go to Repository->Repository Settings and change the URL.
   
   
2. Enter the new repository location, and click SAVE.

Change your account on GitHub Desktop

1. Click on Options
   
   
2. If it is pointing to a different account. Click on "Sign into GitHub Enterprise".
   
   
3. Enter https://github.com/Seneca-Polytechnic and click "Continue".

Using Git Bash Shell

1. Run "git remote -v" to check the current remote origin.
2. If necessary to point to a new location, run "git remote set-url origin" and the URL of the new location.
