Semester Exchange is an opportunity for Seneca students to study abroad at a partner institution and earn academic credits for their Seneca programs.
For many students, studying abroad can be both exciting and intimidating. Mirim Kim, a CPA student, who attended a semester exchange at Windesheim University in the Netherlands in Winter 2023, said: "When I received the email that I had been accepted as an exchange student, I couldn't help but feel excited and full of anticipation for my time in the Netherlands."
The semester exchange will always be a memorable experience. "It was a wonderful experience as I got to work with a team on projects for actual clients. I also had the chance to participate in various engaging events.", the student said. Semester Exchange allows students to immerse in different cultures, try various local delicacies, learn more about themselves and others, develop global skills, expand their network, and elevate their portfolio and resume. Some students learn a new language after a semester abroad. Some others become inspired to live and work abroad for a longer term. Some come home, bring back what they learned abroad and contribute to their communities.
Mirim mentioned in her journal after returning to Canada: "Reflecting on my time as an exchange student in the Netherlands, I realize how immensely valuable the experience was. I acquired valuable knowledge and various experiences in new cultures. To those who are considering it, I wholeheartedly recommend applying for an exchange program."
Every student's semester exchange is different, yet they have one thing in common: It is a life-changing experience.
