Students in Global Learning Fair 2023

Received Letter of Acceptance – What’s Next?

You are one step closer to a semester exchange at Seneca!

Check out the information and resources below that you will need to start your journey.

+Health Insurance

Health insurance is mandatory for exchange students and is arranged by Seneca. Approximate cost is $400 per semester. Exchange students will be informed about the health insurance cost and payment deadline by email.

See the insurance coverage here.

+Financial Planning

Toronto is the most populous city in Canada and has a relatively high cost of living. Numbeo is a useful website for assessing living expenses. Compared to your home country, you’ll likely pay more for cellphone plans and fresh fruits/vegetables. But it’s not all bad news! Students benefit from numerous discounts on popular attractions and events.

Exchange students may not be allowed to work in Canada (see Visa and Study Permit section below). Therefore, the key is to establish a budget: assess your available funds and determine a weekly spending limit.

+Visa and Study Permit

Visas

No matter your length of study, you will need a Temporary Residence Visa (TRV/visitor visa) or an eTA to enter Canada. Refer to the Government of Canadawebsite to confirm which category you are.

Study Permit

If you plan to study at Seneca for less than six months, you do not need a study permit. However, there are benefits to having a study permit.

If you plan to study at Seneca for more than six months, you must have a study permit.

IMPORTANT: This information is subject to change without notice. Always check the Government of Canada website for the most up-to-date information.

+When to Arrive

We recommend arriving at least by the Wednesday or Thursday before school starts. You need time to adjust to any jetlag and prepare for the semester. Also, the Exchange Student Welcome Orientation is on the Friday of the same week.

+Class Enrollment

As an exchange student, you cannot register for classes on your own. Instead, you'll need assistance from the program coordinator and student advisor in your Seneca program. They will register you for classes. We will introduce you to them via your Seneca email 1 ½-2 months before the semester begins.
