WRITTEN BY BAROT JALPA BHARATBHAI, GLOBAL HOSPITALITY BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT STUDENT, SENECA COLLEGE

As from my research on sustainability hospitality, I have come across a very interesting term called “Green is the New Black” which refers to those customers or guests who are looking to live a greener lifestyle. The hospitality industry is emerging from greyness into green life which is perfect for sustainability. The guest has not started to expect eco-friendlier and greener hotels during their stay. Taking this in mind, many hotels have started using different designs for their hotel architecture which is becoming the support of sustainability.

The Shinta Mani Wild in Cambodia was hugely impacted by logging and poaching. The Eco Architecture Bill Bensley on his website Bensley Collection showed that how they had designed the sustainable camps which preserve the Wildlife Alliance of the forest. This ideal for those travelers or guest who wants to experience the nature from close. If we are talking about comfort and luxury, then Whitepod Eco-Luxury Resort in Switzerland has a unique design as it is made up of geodesic domes that require 30% less energy than a normal building. This shows that how hotels with the use of minimal resources can be built sustainable hotels

The hotels had now started to incline towards adopting eco-friendlier practices which will make their guest more relax and comfortable. One of the best hotels I came to know was The Student Hotel located few minutes from Amsterdam. In their interview with Sea Going Green, they talk about the sustainability project of implementation of flight policy which has to reduce the net-zero carbon footprint from their all-business fights by 2021. What makes it unique is that the hotel itself is a student hotel which makes them more responsible and empowered actions towards the sustainability goals.

If we are mentioning the eco-friendly with adventurous ways to travel, then Tiny Home Vacation Rentals one of the hot trends which travelers are looking for and it also serves the sustainable experience. The Treebone Resort in California is one of the best places for a tiny home vacation. They provide a luxurious yet minimalistic home type and “glamping” experience to their guest. The Treebone Resort is completely off-grid as they use microturbines and solar energy to power their resort. So, it’s basically a tiny house on wheels!
