Seneca Polytechnic’s Board of Governors has 17 members: 12 representing the community, three internal employee members, a student, and the President. One-third of the external members are nominated by the Board and appointed by the Cabinet of the Ontario Government, officially titled the Lieutenant Governor in Council. Two-thirds are nominated and elected by the Board. Collectively, the external members bring a wide range of skill and experience in education, finance, public affairs, governance, legal affairs, community relations and management to help Seneca achieve its strategic objectives.
Internal members are Seneca employees from a specific constituent group: faculty, support staff, and administrative staff. Each constituent group has one member. There is one Board position represented by a student. Each of these positions is elected by their peers.
Internal employee board members are eligible to serve a term of three years and can serve one additional three-year term if re-elected, provided they continue to be eligible candidates. The student governor is eligible to serve a term of up to two years and may serve one additional two-year term if re-elected and if they continue to an eligible candidate. The student governor is elected annually.
