Over the last two weeks of March, the Office of Sustainability, in collaboration with various departments, spearheaded a series of initiatives to cultivate a sustainability culture across our campuses. With the active participation of over 300 students, staff, and community members, these Sustainability Days of Action were a resounding success, highlighting our collective commitment to sustainable practices and initiatives.

The events kicked off at the Newnham campus on March 21 with the Sustainability Fair. Eighteen departments from Seneca showcased their projects, all aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in different activities, from test-driving electric cars to planting their herbs. They also had access to resources such as Seneca's sexual harassment policy and could borrow books from the library. Not to mention, they got a taste of Seneca Honey, among other sustainability initiatives.

In collaboration with the Seneca Student Federation (SSF) and Athletics and Recreation, a Climate Café was organized to facilitate open discussions about climate change and the actionable steps we can take collectively. Additionally, a wellness walk around King Campus allowed participants to reconnect with nature, fostering a deeper appreciation for our environment.

Collaboration with SSF and Seneca Works at the Markham campus resulted in the first-ever Career Threads pop-up, introducing students to this valuable free service. More than 25 students benefited from receiving professional items, enhancing their readiness for the job market.

Throughout these two impactful weeks, the Newnham Campus offered a sustainable menu featuring locally sourced ingredients, such as beets and goat cheese, underscoring our commitment to supporting local producers and reducing our carbon footprint.

Wrapping up the series of events, a screening of the documentary The Need to Grow was held at The Hive, by SSF. The documentary shed light on pressing environmental issues while inspiring attendees to take meaningful action towards a more sustainable future.

The success of the Sustainability Days of Action wouldn't have been possible without the dedication and support of all participating departments and volunteers. Their collective efforts have advanced sustainability initiatives within our community.

As we reflect on the achievements of these past weeks, we look forward to more opportunities to learn, engage, and make a positive impact. Stay tuned for upcoming events and initiatives aimed at furthering our sustainability goals.
