The 2024 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Training, held virtually from February 12 to March 8, marked another successful chapter in promoting sustainability education. Organized by Seneca’s Office of Sustainability in partnership with the Foundation for Environmental Stewardship, this initiative has been seamlessly integrated into existing courses since 2018. This year, it engaged over 400 students across eight courses, further solidifying its impact.
Participants, including both students and professors, delved into the history and localized significance of the SDGs. This deep dive provided valuable insights into how sustainability can be embedded within academic disciplines. The training culminated in students earning a certificate of completion, symbolizing their commitment to advancing sustainable practices within their communities and beyond.
To complement the SDG training, an SDG Scavenger Hunt was organized, attracting over 70 enthusiastic students. This engaging event allowed participants to explore the sustainability initiatives on campus, uncovering their direct links to the United Nations’ SDGs. The scavenger hunt not only deepened their understanding but also fostered a sense of community and shared purpose.
Seneca’s dedication to sustainability education, highlighted by the 2024 SDGs Training, continues to inspire students and faculty alike, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to make meaningful contributions to a sustainable future.
