In December 1966, Dr. William T. Newnham, was hired as Seneca’s first president. He was also employee No. 1. There were no campuses, no programs and no curriculum.
He was handed an empty box by the chair of the Board of Governors with the following words:
“This is Seneca College. Take it, find a building, renovate it, develop courses and an administration, hire teachers and enroll students. And we want it to be the finest in Canada.”
You will find an open box hidden in plain sight on every mural.
