Community Participation

Community events are wonderful opportunities to for us to participate and give our time, energy and expertise. They are also excellent opportunities to network with other professionals who work with children and youth. Participation in any community event would be completely voluntary on the student’s part. Volunteer experience can be added to your CYC resume.

If you are interesting in community participation opportunities please contact David Connolly at david.connolly@senecacollege.ca

2025 Coldest Night of the Year!

2025 Coldest Night of the Year

Team Seneca Child and Youth Care continues to step up, even in the snow!
Our wonderful team of CYC students, faculty, family and friends participated again this year in the 2025 Coldest Night of the Year walk. This was our team's 3rd year participating in the family-friendly walk to raise money for local charities serving individuals and families experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness. This year's team raised a whopping $3131.03 for Blue Door. Bringing our three total to $7958.05. Well done Team!

I would like to share a few examples of how this event helped raise awareness.
  • Courtney brought along her mom and aunt!
  • Megan and Silvia brought their friends!
  • Many of our team members reached out to family and friends for donations.
  • Julia B. inspired her work to create their own CNOY team and they participated in Scarborough! And thank you for the socks!
  •  And of course we are inspiring the next generation in our littles!
This year's walk consisted of 4 faculty, 15 students and 7 CYC family and friends. It was wonderful to have such a large group representing Seneca and CYC.

A huge thank you to all of our team members!

2024 Chippewas of Georgina Island Powwow

The Chippewas of Georgina Island held their annual Pow Wow at Sutton District High School on September 28 and 29. The theme this year was Nawendwin Relations, honoring the connection between people and nature specifically wildlife. A group of Seneca faculty and students attended the Saturday and took in the wonderful sights and sounds of drumming, dancing, First Nations owned food and craft vendors. It was also an opportunity to promote cultural understanding. For many of us it was the first time attending a pow wow.
