  • Is what I have seen reportable?

  • Answered

Individuals do not need to be certain that child maltreatment has occurred to report an incident to a CAS. Individuals are only required to have reasonable grounds that a child has been, or is at risk of, abuse, neglect or exposure to family violence. They may call a local CAS to discuss their concerns with a child welfare worker, who will give advice on whether the information is “reportable” or not. If the circumstances are not reportable by the societies set guidelines, they will not engage in any further investigation.
