Microsoft Copilot is your everyday AI companion, providing AI-powered chat for the web. When Seneca students and employees sign in with their Seneca ID, Copilot offers enterprise data protection (EDP) and a new, simplified, ad-free user interface designed for work and education.
Copilot enhances research, data analysis and creativity by giving users access to better answers, greater efficiency, and new ways to be creative. It leverages powerful AI built on multimodal large language models and text-to-image models including GPT-4. Integrated with Bing, Copilot provides the most current information from the web with verifiable citations for transparency.
Seneca students and employees can access the EDP version of Copilot by signing in with their Seneca ID. This step enables data protection features and ensures secure interactions. Look for the ‘Protected’ badge after logging in, to confirm you’re in a confidential session with Copilot.
Seneca recommends using Copilot as a safer GenAI platform than ChatGPT for student and employee use.
The reason for this preference is simple: safety. Microsoft developed Copilot with the safety and security of users and their information in mind – something that stands in contrast to ChatGPT. Trust in Copilot for a secure GenAI experience.
Key safety features of Copilot
One of the notable safety features of Copilot is its data handling policy. Any prompts entered into Copilot by users, along with the responses generated, are protected as part of Microsoft’s enterprise data protection commitment to Seneca. Additionally, this data is not used for training the underlying GenAI models.
For more information about how Seneca is ensuring the safety of students and employees who use GenAI tools, see the new Generative AI Policy.
