The following summary of offences is not exhaustive nor is it limited to the descriptions and/or examples provided. All students involved will be subject to the penalties indicated in the Academic Integrity policy.
Contract cheating
A form of academic dishonesty in which a student’s academic work is completed by a third party on their behalf and submitted for academic credit. It may involve a fee paid to a third party.
Misrepresenting or forging documentation, e.g., a medical record, an academic record or academic work of another student, to gain an academic advantage.
Impersonation
The act of taking a test, an examination, or any other assessment on another individual’s behalf, with their knowledge and consent.
Plagiarism
Using another individual’s work (e.g., words, images, ideas, logic, phrases, signatures or computations) and presenting it as one’s own, without properly citing the source.
Self-Plagiarism
All assignments must be original and completed within the semester. Students may not use any assignments from other courses, or from the same course from previous semesters. With the professor’s permission, students may use past course work in their current assignment, but it must be appropriately cited.
Cheating and/or plagiarism are offenses which will not be tolerated by Seneca. Such offenses occur when a student violates the procedures governing the administration of examinations, test or other means of evaluating student achievement in a subject or program. As honesty and integrity are central to the role of a Child Development Practitioner, cheating is viewed as very serious offense.
