FAQ regarding Clinical Preparedness Permit (CPP)
Please find below frequently asked questions about CPP. Please review his document before sending an email with your inquiry.
Is CPP mandatory?
Yes, you will not be allowed into clinical without your CPP being cleared by the deadline.
When is CPP due?
Winter Term- Nov 30
Spring Term- March 30
Fall Term- July 31
When should I start the process to get cleared for clinical?
6-8 weeks prior to the deadline for CPP clearance. You should complete the medical requirements ASAP as they do not expire and you only need to do them once in the program.
What happens if my CPP is not cleared by the given due date?
You will not be eligible for a clinical placement meaning you might have to take a Leave Of Absence.
What if the VSS is from my home Country? Is it acceptable?
No. It must be from the province you reside in.
I have lived in another province and recently moved to Ontario. Is my Police Record Check valid from another province?
Yes.
I am under 18, how do I get my Police Record Check?
You need to obtain a waiver from Noreen Champagne by emailing her at noreen.champagne@senecacollege.ca with Subject Line: Waiver for Police Record Check.
What is considered a criminal offence when doing a background check?
Driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, any type of assault, theft, and anything related to drugs. Routine traffic tickets are not considered a criminal offence.
I have a criminal offence, can I go to clinical?
No, you will not be able to attend clinical. Please contact your Clinical Co-ordinator.
Does Standard First Aid include BLS provider certification?
Yes, the first time you get certified you will need Standard First Aid which includes the BLS Provider Certification. Standard First Aid is valid for 3 years. BLS Provider is only valid for one year. You will need to attend a renewal course annually to maintain your BLS Provider certification.
Where can I get my mask fit test done?
Concise Health or a third party.
If I cannot be clean shaven for religious reasons, what do I do?
You need to obtain a waiver from Noreen Champagne by emailing her at noreen.champagne@senecacollege.ca with Subject Line: Waiver for Mask Fit Testing.
Please note you will need to self-identify at the clinical placement that you have not been mask fit tested due to religious reasons.
My family doctor is not available, what should I do?
You may go to a walk-in clinic that handles immunizations and bloodwork or visit Seneca Health.
I had my step one TB test done and it is negative. Do I need to do step two?
Prior to clinical you must complete baseline two-step TB testing. Once a negative 2-step is established then you need to complete only one-step TB testing annually.
I have a positive TB test, what do I do?
If you have a positive TB test you will need a chest x-ray every 2 years and a letter from HCP every year stating “there are no signs and symptoms of TB”
What order should I have my vaccines and TB test done in?
Please consult your health care provider to look at which vaccines you require. Please note there is a time period between the TB test and certain vaccines.
My MMR comes back indeterminate. Can I attend clinical and what do I do?
You will be able to attend clinical. Please consult with you health care provider for further steps.
I have received my completed series of Hep B immunization but I am still not immune. Can I attend clinical and what do I do?
Students are able to attend clinical if they have completed their first series of Hep B immunization. Consult with you health care provider for second series. If you have a complete second series and are still not immune, you need documentation stating you are a non-responder.
I am not able to get the flu vaccine, what should I do?
You need to obtain a waiver from Noreen Champagne by emailing her at noreen.champagne@senecacollege.ca with Subject Line: Waiver for Flu vaccine.
Depending on the facility you are placed at you might not be eligible to attend clinical.
I do not have my COVID vaccine. Will I be allowed to go to clinical?
No. You will not be eligible for a clinical placement meaning you might have to take a Leave Of Absence. Please note you should have your second dose prior to the CPP clearance deadline.
I am an international student and my documentation is in another language. What do I do?
Please visit the Seneca International Office or have a physician that can translate the documentation.
I am an international student and I do not have my immunization record?
Consult with your health care provider or Seneca Health to see which vaccines you may require.
