Fires can happen anywhere, including right here on campus—in classrooms, offices, and shared spaces. Every year, fires cause injuries and property damage, often because people are unsure how to respond. If a fire were to occur on campus, would you know the steps to take? Are you familiar with the campus evacuation procedures when the alarm sounds? Knowing what to do can protect yourself and others.

Knowing the answers to these questions and following essential fire safety practices can make all the difference in preventing injuries, saving lives, and minimizing damage on campus.

Be Prepared:

• Always be familiar with your surroundings. Ensure you are aware of at least two exits close to your location.
• Know the location of the nearest fire alarm pull station.
• Know how the fire alarm system at your campus works.
• Be familiar with the fire alarm procedures.
