After you submit your online application, IRCC will review it to ensure it is complete. If any documents are missing, they may request additional information or return your application without processing it. Your application will only move forward once all required documents have been received.
IRCC will then send you a letter with your Unique Client Identifier (UCI) and application number, followed by a biometrics instruction letter with details on how to complete your biometrics.
If you move or change your address, telephone number or any other contact information after you apply, you must update your application.
Use the application status tracker to get updates about your application. To create an account you need your unique client identifier (UCI) application number
You will receive instructions to finalize your entry to Canada, including either a passport request for visa stamping or confirmation of your electronic travel authorization (eTA), both of which are linked to the passport used in your application. You will also receive a port of entry letter of introduction, which confirms you are approved to study in Canada — this is not your study permit, but you must present it to a border services officer when you arrive. Your official study permit will be issued at the port of entry upon arrival in Canada.
We also invite you to review the International Student Checklists for important information and steps to take when traveling to Canada.
Keep Seneca informed about your study permit status by updating Student Home throughout the application process.
You will receive a letter explaining the reasons for refusal. You may reapply by addressing the concerns raised and submitting supporting documents. For guidance on reapplying, you can contact Seneca’s immigration specialists at theservicehub@senecapolytechnic.ca.
