Oct. 26-27 was a winning weekend for the Seneca Sting, with our student-athletes winning medals in three different sports

Highlighting this fantastic weekend of accomplishments was the women’s soccer team, which captured its second straight Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) championship.

Yoana Peralta Fernan was named MVP of the championship, setting up a goal as the Sting buzzed past the Humber Hawks 3-1.

The two-time champion Sting will now head to Squamish, B.C. for the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship. Last year, the Sting became the first team representing an Ontario-based institution ever to win the CCAA tournament in women’s soccer.

For their part, the men’s soccer team defeated the Sheridan Bruins 3-1 to earn the OCAA bronze medal – marking five straight years of medals in men’s soccer for Seneca. Michael Pellegrini scored all three goals for the Sting.

In individual sports, Taylor Kampen won an OCAA silver medal by finishing second in the women’s cross-country race. Her time of 24:01 put her across the finish line just one second ahead of her closest competitor.

Ms. Kampen will now represent Seneca at the CCAA Championship in Windsor on Nov. 9.
