A familiar voice around Seneca Polytechnic will be heard in-arena before every game of Toronto’s new WNBA team.
Elder Blu Waters, Indigenous Community Engagement Co-ordinator, will serve as Elder for the Toronto Tempo during their inaugural season. That role includes narrating the land acknowledgement video that will be played before every Tempo home game. Elder Blu will also be an honoured guest at a number of games.
Elder Blu’s role with the Toronto Tempo also reflects Seneca’s ongoing commitment to Indigenous communities and to acknowledging the land on which we learn and work. Seneca’s campuses are located on the Land stewarded by Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat Nations. We acknowledge Treaty 13 (Toronto Purchase) signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, and the Williams Treaty, signed with multiple Mississauga and Chippewa First Nations.
