Seneca Polytechnic hosted Remembrance Day ceremonies across all campuses to honour those who defended and continue to defend our country on Friday, Nov. 10.

Each Remembrance Day ceremony highlighted a collective commitment to remembering and honouring the sacrifices made by the Canadian Armed Forces. The laying of wreaths, musical tributes, readings of In Flanders Fields and An Honoured Son by Seneca students and observing two minutes of silence created an atmosphere of reflection, sense of unity and gratitude among those in attendance.

Also, Han Dong, MP, Don Valley North; Akarshannoor Singh, President, SSF; Janice Hagan, President, OPSEU Local 561; Ken Ellis, President, Seneca Retirees Association; and Subata Ali, Recruitment & Conversation Specialist, Marketing & Communications, laid wreaths at the cenotaph at Newnham Campus.

Canada has been marking Remembrance Day since 1919, a year after the end of the First World War. It was on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month that guns fell silent. Every year, two minutes of silence are observed to reflect on the freedom that has come at such a great cost.
