Melissa Thomas, Professor, Faculty of Continuing Education and Training, has been recognized for her work serving the community.

Ms. Thomas, who is also an Inspector with Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services, is the recipient of a GTA Public Heroes Award, bestowed annually by the Intercultural Dialogue Institute to first responders in the Greater Toronto Area.

Her nomination specifically commended her volunteer work at Sunnybrook Hospital, where she brings joy and connection to members and veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces by arranging for holiday greeting cards.

Recipients of the awards are chosen from a pool of nominees and selected based on altruism, community involvement and dedication.
