RE: Recognizing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30 is a day of remembrance, learning and action.

Since 2021, this day has been commemorated nationally after 215 unmarked child graves were found on the grounds of Kamloops Indian Residential School. More graves were subsequently found by other former residential schools.

September 30 is also Orange Shirt Day, acknowledging the tragic history and impact of the residential school system in Canada. It honours the thousands of Indigenous children who never returned home, survivors and families and communities.

Seneca Polytechnic is holding several events leading up to and on September 30 to mark this important day. We are honoured to be joined by Connie Walker, Pulitzer Prize and Peabody Award-winning investigative journalist and a member of the Okanese First Nation in Saskatchewan. The entire Seneca community is invited to her talk on Monday, Sept. 30.

For details on this talk and other planned events, please visit MySeneca.

As is customary for us, flags at Seneca, including an orange flag, will fly at half-mast on September 30.
