Full-Time Support Staff at polytechnics and colleges across the province are officially on strike as of 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11.

All Seneca campuses will remain open and services will continue to be offered in person and online. To help keep you informed, we have posted some FAQs below. We will be adding additional details as things develop so please keep checking back for the latest updates.

In addition, we recommend you download the Seneca SAFE app if you haven’t already. On the app, we will post helpful guidelines for coming to campus and crossing picket lines.

FAQs

Will classes continue during the strike?

Yes. Classes will continue as scheduled and campuses will remain open.

How long will the strike?
We can’t predict how long the strike will last.

When and where do we anticipate picketing will occur on each campus?

These are the expected picketing times at Seneca campuses. Individuals travelling to one of these campuses should anticipate potential delays entering and exiting campuses during these hours, and plan accordingly.

King

  • Scheduled picketing times: 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Location: Gravel sidewalk along roadway entrance to campus

Newnham

  • Scheduled picketing times: 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Location: public sidewalks at Finch Ave. and Au Large Blvd. and at Don Mills Rd.  and Premier Davis Blvd.
  • We recommend people traveling to Newnham enter the campus through Au Large, traveling directly from Seneca Hill Dr. in a northbound direction. This may allow drivers to avoid picketing delays that come from turning left or right onto Au Large

Peterborough

  • No picketing to occur

Seneca@York

  • Scheduled picketing times: 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Location: public sidewalk adjacent to building

Will accessing Seneca campuses by public transit be impacted by the strike?

Public transit to Newnham and Seneca@York will not be impacted by the strike. On King Campus, York Region Transit (YRT) will be re-routing during picket hours (7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) to avoid delays. Please visit this article for more details on YRT updates.

Will Seneca shuttle services be impacted by the strike?

No. We do not anticipate any changes to our shuttle routes or schedules during the strike. However, we do recommend building in extra travel time to avoid any unforeseen delays.

Will the strike impact student parking on campus?

Individuals entering and exiting Seneca campuses may encounter delays due to picketers.

Co-ops, Work Terms and Placements

Will student co-op and work terms for Fall 2025 continue during the strike?
Yes. Co-op and work terms will continue during the strike. If you have questions about your co-op or work term, please contact Seneca Works through The Service Hub.

Will my Work Term Preparation course (WTP100/WTP200) be cancelled?
No. WTP100/WTP200 courses will continue but will move to an online asynchronous format during the strike period. Students will complete course modules and learning activities independently.

Should I continue pursuing co-op and works placements for 2026, given the strike?
Yes. Students seeking co-op or work term employment for Winter or Summer 2026 are encouraged to continue their job search activity, including interview practice and applying to jobs. Seneca Works provides various online resources, AI tools and resumé clinics that will remain available to support students. If you have questions about your upcoming co-op or work term, please contact Seneca Works through The Service Hub.

Will student field placements and internships for Fall 2025 be impacted?
