Seneca Polytechnic’s first workspace dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI) is now open at Newnham Campus’s Centre for Innovation, Technology & Entrepreneurship (CITE).

The AI Lab, located in room K2020, is available to students and employees. It is designed for AI training, project work and collaboration, and features 12 specialized workstations and three group meeting spaces with large monitors.

At the workstations, visitors can access a range of leading AI platforms free of charge, including ChatGPT Plus, Claude AI Pro, GitHub Copilot, Gemini Pro, Microsoft Copilot 365, Microsoft Foundry, Midjourney, Notebook LM and more.

Seneca’s AI Thought Leaders Panos Panagiotakopoulos and Kent Peel, along with experts from Seneca Libraries, Teaching & Learning and academic areas, will also be available in this space to share knowledge, answer questions and deliver workshops for AI experts and first-time users alike.

“The AI Lab offers a space for the Seneca community to experiment with the world’s most advanced AI software for free,” said Mr. Panagiotakopoulos will also highlight AI-driven solutions and showcase student capstone projects in an inspiring, immersive environment.”

Along with the lab, a new AI-focused portal will soon be available on MySeneca to provide students and employees with access to training materials, guidelines and resources. Students from Seneca’s software-related programs are contributing to building this portal and will also support lab operations as part of their experiential learning.

“This lab and the portal are the latest examples of Seneca’s leadership in AI use within higher education,” said Mr. Peel. “They are designed to foster a strong community of practice and remove the financial burden of subscribing to costly AI software.”

The AI Lab is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students and employees can walk in and explore the lab or book a consultation with an AI expert.

Questions about the lab can be directed to ai.lab@senecapolytechnic.ca
