The latest collective bargaining agreement between Ontario’s colleges and full-time and partial-load professors, instructors, librarians and counsellors expired on Sept. 30, 2021.

Negotiations on a new agreement have been ongoing between the College Employer Council and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union, but no agreement has been reached.

From Dec. 8 to 11, a vote was held among the union members on whether to give a strike mandate. The vote resulted in the union receiving a strike mandate from 59.4% of those who voted. This means that the union can take labour action as early as Dec. 18, 2021. Labour action can take various forms, including work to rule, rotating strikes and a full walk-out.

The College Employer Council has provided background and FAQs about the strike mandate and what it means for students.

More information will be shared as soon as it is available.
