Bill Humber, retired Director of Eco-Seneca Initiatives, has been named to the Order of Canada. Mr. Humber was appointed as a member for his contributions as the country’s premier baseball historian.

His lifelong interest in Canadian history, led him to create and teach a course at Seneca called Baseball Spring Training, which offers students the opportunity to learn about baseball history and minor league reports. Since 1983, he has also published 12 books on Canadian baseball.

In 2018, Mr. Humber was the first academic researcher to be inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. He also won bronze in the 2019 Colleges and Institutes Canada Awards of Excellence in the Managerial Staff category for Leadership Excellence.

Mr. Humber is one of 93 Canadians to receive the Order of Canada this year, one of our country’s most prestigious civilian honours. The Order of Canada recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.
