On Friday, Sept. 30, we commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation — which coincides with Orange Shirt Day — to acknowledge Canada’s history with Indigenous Peoples and the path forward. It is a day to reflect on the devastation residential schools inflicted on Indigenous communities across the country and also a day to recognize Indigenous resilience.

Reconciliation happens together with Indigenous Peoples. There is much work to be done and it will require every one of us to become more information and take action.

On Sept. 30, Seneca will be commemorating the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with Duncan McCue, award-winning CBC journalist and Kuper Island podcast host, from 1 to 2 p.m. All are invited to attend virtually or in The Meeting Place, Level 3, CITE, Newnham Campus (masks required).

Register to attend.

A variety of learning resources and tools are available to support truth and reconciliation, including:

In addition, you can purchase a Seneca orange shirt designed by Indigenous artist Isaac Murdoch. Proceeds will go to the Candy Palmater Memorial Award.

Additional information can be found on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation space.
