Audience: Students
Date: April 13, 2023
Time: 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm
Location: Virtual
Description:

Join EAC519 students as they prepare for their Final Showcase and share their performance skills along with their favourite original poems from this semester. What is a spoken word performance? It’s a rhythmic mix of poetry that intersects public speaking and theatre. Our performers promise to engage you with meaningful content, sensational vocal delivery, and their powerful stage presence. Over the weeks, we’ve been working on our confidence and comfortability presenting in front of public audiences. That’s why we need you! Through artistic choices focused on facial expressions, gestures, emotion, punctuation and tone choices, you will get a taste for what happens when a spoken word performer embodies the words of their poetry and brings the energy in the room to a whole new level. Possible themes include: identity, race based perspectives, social justice and human rights, notes on nature, self-empowerment, and grief. Please note, some of the performers’ work may involve material that is sensitive in nature but a content warning will be provided if necessary as a way to give audience members a heads up.
