Robyn Cummings is a photo-based artist with a fervent interest in representation and a personal fascination with depictions of the human creature. Often employing humour as a strategy to transgress boundaries, she attempts to make work that is both wondrous while disconcerting, seductive while grotesque. Cummings is taken by the idea of the constructed in photography. We might think here of mid-to-late 19th century portrait photography which commonly used props and painted backdrops.
