SECET Laboratory Code of Behaviour

To ensure the safety and professionalism of all students and faculty within SECET laboratories at the Newnham campus, the following rules apply to the designated labs:

Applicable Labs: A3085, A3089*, A3092, A4058, A4067, A4069, A4071, A4083*, A4085*, A4087*, A4089*, K1100, K1200, K1261, K1264*, K1265*, K2200, K2240, K2260, K2261, K3261, K3262

General Conduct and Safety Guidelines:

1. Students must always conduct themselves in a professional and safe manner.
2. Students are not permitted to be in any SECET lab without supervision.
3. Be aware of the location of the nearest fire extinguisher, safety station, and available safety supplies in the lab.
4. Food and beverages are strictly prohibited in the lab.
5. Safety glasses must be worn whenever electrical power is ON.
6. Additional personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used or worn as required.
7. Open-toed shoes or sandals are not permitted.
8. Long hair must be securely tied back.
9. All equipment brought into the lab must be CSA-approved and in proper working condition.
10. Vandalism of any kind will not be tolerated. Please note that security cameras are in place to protect Seneca’s property and ensure    occupant safety. Violators will be subject to the Seneca Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.
11. Maintain personal hygiene by washing hands or using hand sanitizer after lab activities.

Enforcement: Failure to comply with the SECET Laboratory Code of Behaviour will result in a lab grade of zero (0).

Note: Rules #2, #3, #5, #6, #7 and #8 do not apply to labs marked with an asterisk (*).
