What is Retroactive Accommodation?
Retroactive accommodation occurs when a student has missed a scheduled course assessment (e.g., test, assignment) due to the functional impacts of their disability.
Who is eligible to request Retroactive Accommodation?
Students may be eligible to request retroactive accommodation if:
they were unaware they had a disability at the time of the course assessment and have since received a new diagnosis,
a new condition emerged, and accommodations were insufficient in addressing functional limitations, and/or
a known condition worsened and prevented the student from fully participating in their studies/course assessment and/or the accommodation process
How are Retroactive Accommodations requested?
Students are invited to contact their professor and assigned Accessibility Counsellor to determine if retroactive accommodation can be provided. Each request will be meaningfully considered on an individual case-by-case basis and discussed with the academic area to determine an appropriate resolution.
