Accessible Learning Services

Welcome to Accessible Learning Services at Seneca Polytechnic

At Seneca Polytechnic, we are committed to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students. Our Accessible Learning Services (ALS) team is here to provide a variety of service provider supports to ensure that students with disabilities have the tools and resources they need to succeed academically. Whether you require assistance in the classroom, during exams, or with coursework, we are dedicated to helping you navigate your academic journey.

Our service providers play a key role in supporting students with accommodations, helping you fully engage in your learning experience. These services include, but are not limited to:

  • Educational Assistants (EAs): EAs provide personalized academic support, assisting with classroom activities, organizing assignments, and helping you stay on track with your studies.
  • Computerized Notetakers: For students who are Deaf or hard of hearing, these service providers offer digital note-taking assistance to ensure you have accurate and accessible records of class lectures and discussions.
  • American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters: For students who are Deaf or hard of hearing, ASL interpreters facilitate communication by translating spoken language into ASL during lectures, discussions, and other academic activities.
  • Professional Tutors: For students with disabilities who require additional tutoring beyond what is available to all students through the Seneca Learning Centre. These tutors help students develop effective learning strategies and improve comprehension of course materials. This service is directly link to BSWD funding.
  • Readers and Scribes: Available in select cases where assistive technology does not apply, readers can assist with reading materials aloud, while scribes provide support with writing or recording responses during timed assessments.

ALS Coordination of Services
If applicable to your accommodation needs, the ALS team will work with you to coordinate the appropriate service providers, ensuring that the support you receive is aligned with your academic goals. We will ensure that your accommodations are put into place effectively and that you are connected with the right resources to meet your needs.

To support access to these services, ALS will assist you in exploring available funding opportunities, such as the BSWD (Bursary for Students with Disabilities), to help you access and benefit from these essential supports. We are committed to helping you navigate these resources to ensure you receive supports.

At Seneca, we believe that every student deserves equal access to learning opportunities. The Accessible Learning Services team is here to ensure that barriers are removed, and that you have the support necessary to thrive academically and personally.
