ALS: What you need to know about the BSWD | Accessible Learning Services | Seneca Students

What should I know?

• Not all services and equipment related to disability are eligible for funding.

  • As part of the BSWD process, all options for services and equipment available within Seneca need to be explored first.

  • Each request for BSWD funding needs to be linked back to medical documentation outlining a related functional impact.

• Funds can only be used for items and/or services approved in your BSWD application.
• Each approved item has a set purchase amount. If you exceed this amount, you are responsible for covering the difference.
• Funds must be used for the specific purchases listed; they cannot be applied to other expenses or living costs.
• Any unused BSWD funds must be returned after all purchases are made and cannot be carried over to the next academic term.
• Since funding is not guaranteed, it’s recommended not to purchase services or items before receiving the funds.
• If there have been changes to your academic status or course enrollment since submitting your application, do not use or deposit the funds. Contact the Financial Aid Office for further guidance.

Psychoeducational Assessments:

• The costs of a psychoeducational assessment may be eligible for funding through the BSWD or CSG-PDSE, provided:
  • the assessment was completed within six months prior to your study start date.
  • The student requires access to accommodations or specific services/equipment that are not currently supported in documentation.
• After completing your assessment, you must submit an OSAP Disability Verification Form (DVF), which must be signed by an authorized individual.
• Once completed, follow the instructions provided in your approval email to submit your completed DVF.
