ALS: Employment Opportunities
Accessible Learning Services (ALS) offers casual and on-call employment opportunities each semester to support students registered with the department and assist in implementing their academic accommodations. ALS provides a range of roles designed to ensure that students with disabilities or other learning needs have equitable access to education. These positions are integral to helping students thrive academically by offering personalized support tailored to their unique needs.
The following positions are available on a casual or on-call basis each semester:
Educational AssistantEducational Assistants (EAs) provide one-on-one or group support to students with disabilities or other learning challenges. They assist with supporting note-taking, classroom participation, and other learning-related tasks to ensure students can fully engage with course material.
ASL InterpretersAmerican Sign Language (ASL) interpreters assist students who are deaf or hard of hearing by interpreting lectures, discussions, and other academic events. Interpreters bridge communication between students and instructors, ensuring access to all course content.
Behaviour InterventionistBehaviour Interventionists work with students providing tailored support and interventions. They help students develop appropriate behavioral strategies for learning environments, enhancing focus, engagement, and academic success.
Reader and/or ScribeReaders assist students by reading materials aloud during exams, quizzes, or other timed assessments. Scribes transcribe student responses for timed assessments. These positions support students when assistive technology is not an available alternative.
To qualify for these roles, candidates must:
Be enrolled in a relevant educational program or have previous experience in a related field (such as education, social services, or psychology).
Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Exhibit patience, empathy, and professionalism when working with students.
Have a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.

Interview ProcessShort listed candidates will be contacted for an interview. Interviews may be conducted in through video conferencing platforms. During the interview, candidates will be asked to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and suitability for the role.
Hiring and OnboardingSuccessful candidates will be offered a position based on the specific needs of the department and the availability of roles. Upon hiring, new employees will participate in an onboarding process to ensure they are equipped with the tools and knowledge necessary to support students effectively.
Flexible Hours: Positions are casual and on-call, allowing employees to work around their academic or personal schedules.
