Certificate, diploma and graduate certificate programs — a minimum grade of “C” (60 per cent) is required for a course to be considered for transfer credit for most programs.
Degree programs — a minimum grade of “C+” (65 per cent) in a degree level course is required for a course to be considered for transfer credit for most programs.
A higher minimum grade may be required by certain programs.
Incoming courses are evaluated based on applicability to Seneca’s programs of study and on criteria related to content, learning outcomes, credit value and/or number of teaching hours. If required, and applicable, to the program of study, incoming courses will also be required to include practical and/or lab components.
Seneca reserves the right to limit the time for which a course is considered current and eligible for transfer credit. Such eligibility is determined by each faculty/program. For more details, refer to “Appendix B: Guidelines for Use in Making Life of a Credit Decisions” in the Transfer Credit Policy.
Programs in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering Technology require current knowledge and as such any incoming course that is more than five years old will not be granted transfer credit.
Some programs have additional policy requirements that restrict or limit transfer credit. These programs must follow a set of standards outlined by an accreditation body in order to deliver a specific credential or certification.
Nursing degree programs (including bridging and fast track): transfer credit requests can be made for liberal studies options, English or psychology courses; transfer credit will not be granted for core courses in nursing degree programs
Nursing degree (bridging) program: transfer credits, based on courses completed in a two-year Practical Nursing diploma program from an Ontario college, will not be granted for any courses in the nursing degree (bridging) program.
Nursing graduate certificate programs: transfer credit will not be granted for any courses in nursing graduate certificate programs
Practical nursing programs: transfer credit requests can be made for general education, communications or psychology courses; transfer credit will not be granted for core courses in practical nursing programs
Opticianry program: transfer credit requests for core courses can be made for courses successfully completed in a Accreditation Canada Accredited Optician Program taken at a Canadian College of Applied Arts and Technology
Paralegal programs: transfer credit requests for core courses can be made for courses successfully completed in a Law Society of Ontario accredited paralegal education program taken at an Ontario college of applied arts and technology (transfer credits can only be granted for a maximum of 40% of total courses)
Personal support worker programs: transfer credit requests can be made for the required communications course; transfer credit will not be granted for core courses in the personal support worker programs
Professional Accounting Practice graduate certificate program: transfer credit requests must include a Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) assessment of the previous education along with the official transcript from the previous institution and, if applicable, additional documentation such as course outlines; a minimum grade of 65%/C+ is required for transfer credit into this program
Public Relations - Corporate Communications program: transfer credits will not be granted towards CCM701 or CCM702 in the Public Relations - Corporate Communications program
Technical Communication program: transfer credit will not be granted for any course in the Technical Communication graduate certificate program
Therapeutic Recreation degree program: transfer credits will not be granted towards RSC 875 and RSC 885 in the Therapeutic Recreation degree program
Work term preparation courses: transfer credit will not be granted for WTP100 or WTP200
