Which NFPA certifications are offered?

FPN:

• NFPA 1035 Level I - Fire & Life Safety Educator (FLS590)
• NFPA 1072 Awareness Level - Hazardous Materials (HOM390)
• NFPA 1031 Level I - Fire Inspector (Firefighting Stream only, CFI693)

FPT:

Are there any prerequisites required for these certifications?

Each certificate requires successful completion of the practical skills embedded into the associated course.  In addition, the certifications below require the noted prerequisite courses.

NFPA exams are proctored by the Ontario Fire Marshall (OFM) and typically scheduled within a week of the course completion date.

How / Where do I sign up for the NFPA exam?

Registration for NFPA certification testing can be done through our Seneca Polytechnic NFPA Certification Registration website.

I signed up for an NFPA exam but could not attend.  Can I get a refund?

Exam candidate lists and payment are sent to the OFM six weeks prior to the exam date.  Refunds cannot be issued after the payment is sent to the OFM.

What is the cost to write an NFPA certification exam?

$200 per exam.

I failed my exam, can I do a rewrite?

Yes, you can do a rewrite within 3 years of passing the course.  After 3 years, you will have to do the course again.  There is a $200 fee per rewrite. 

If I failed 1072 Hazmat Awareness, can I still write the 1031 Inspector Level I exam?

Yes, you can still write the 1031 Inspector exam.  However, you will not receive the 1031 certificate until the 1072 exam is passed.

How do I schedule a rewrite?

Send an email to SFPETCertifications@senecapolytechnic.ca with the specific exam you are requesting to rewrite, as well as the date you failed the exam.

When will I know my results?

Exams are marked by the OFM and results are generally received 6 months after the date of the written exam.  Once we receive the results, all students are emailed with the pass or fail status and instructions on how to pick up their certificate.

OFM Certificate Status Web Portal:

The OFM now has a portal where you can track your certificates or exam status.  Note: certificates take about 6 months after the exam date, to arrive at our office.  The OFM portal can be found here:   OFM Portal

When first logging in:

1. Use the non-Seneca email address that was used when you signed up for OFM exam. 
2. Select 'Forgot Password' and proceed to reset your password.
