CFAA Certification | School of Fire Protection Engineering Technology | Seneca Students

For the process on how to become a trainee, review this information first:

There are 5 CFAA courses we have at Seneca:

1. FPF190 - Fire Protection Fundamentals (CFAA Course 1 equivalent)
2. FAS290 - Electricity & Electronics (this is considered to be two courses for CFAA, first half is CFAA Course 3 equivalent, 2^nd half is CFAA Course 4 equivalent)
3. FAS390 - Fire Alarm Systems (CFAA Course 5 equivalent)
4. TEC400 - Technical Communication (CFAA Course 2 equivalent)

You are required to obtain a minimum C grade in each course, and also a minimum C grade in the FAS390 final exam. Once completed, there is a comment placed on your transcript indicating that you have achieved the CFAA academic requirements.  We have an agreement with CFAA that when they see this comment, it confirms that the student has met the CFAA requirements.

Grades are reviewed after 4th semester.  If you've achieved the minimum requirements, the CFAA comment will appear on your transcript after 4th semester.

How to Register as a Trainee with CFAA:

Go to the  CFAA Technician Trainee Registration page to see “How to become a Trainee”.

Follow the steps outlined on that page:

1. Submit your transcript(s) showing completion of the five requisite courses (FPF190, FAS290, FAS390, TEC400 for Seneca students) to techadmin@cfaa.ca
2. Once reviewed, you will receive an email with instructions on how to pay along with your new CFAA Trainee Registration Number. (Registration Number only activated after payment)
3. Once you process your payment, you are required to send (in one email) a photo of yourself in jpeg format along with the receipt of your payment made to techadmin@cfaa.ca 
4. Once you complete steps 1-3, please allow processing time as CFAA work to create and ship your New Trainee Registration card via Canada Post.
