Expectations by Year of Program

The School of Fire Protection Engineering Technology educates students for an industry where life safety is the end goal. We encourage students to plan effectively, manage time wisely, and communicate proactively if challenges arise.

To support the importance of meeting deadlines, being punctual, and following instructions, all courses will have the following expectations:

Assessment Deadline Penalties

Assessment Instruction Penalties: File Name and Email Subject Format

Required File name and Email Subject Format

For all emails where work is being submitted for an assessment the following expectations apply:

1. Files must be Microsoft or PDF submissions to be opened by faculty (unless otherwise specified by Faculty)
2. Must be a single file submitted (unless stated otherwise in the assignment)
3. Question labels must match the assessment (Q2 is labelled as Q2, for example)
4. Work is neat and legible, and PDF does not have to be rotated to be read
5. Following naming convention is required for File Name as well as Email Subject
6. CourseCode_LastName_FirstName_Assessment
   1. Test 1-4 will be T1, T2, T3, T4
   2. Assignment 1-4 will be A1, A2, A3, A4
   3. Exams (midterm, final) will be E1, E2

Naming Examples: Test 1 and Problem Set (Assignment) submissions for Sammy Sting, in FWS390 Section NAA

1. Test 1:               FWS390NAA_Sting_Sammy_T1.pdf
2. Assignment 1: FWS390NAA_Sting_Sammy_A1.pdf

Timed Assessments (Tests, Quizzes)

1. Online Students: Respondus Lockdown Browser and Respondus Monitoring (record webcam, screen, audio)
   1. Environment video must be 30-45 seconds and show your desk area clearly and the surroundings
   2. Only permitted resources should be seen in the video
   3. Unacceptable videos will result in a 25% reduction in the grade
2. In-Person students: Respondus Lockdown Browser
3. If you start late, it is your responsibility to submit by the assessment due date
4. Email hand calculations by end of day when the assessment was submitted
5. All written answers must be in your own words (otherwise, Academic Integrity Violation)
6. Test grades may change upon review of Respondus Monitoring videos 

Courses may have additional expectations but these should be expected in every Fire Protection Engineering Technology course.
