LSO247 Climate Change in Action - Halifax/Bay of Fundy

Have you always wanted to explore Canada’s East Coast? Are you curious about iconic places like Peggy’s Cove, Lunenburg (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), or the Halifax Harbour?

Great news: you can satisfy that curiosity while earning a Liberal Studies (LSO) or General Education (GenEd) credit by enrolling in the School of English & Liberal Studies Experiential Academic Travel (SEAT) course for the upcoming Summer 2025 Term.

You will have the opportunity to travel to Halifax and the Bay of Fundy to study the impacts of climate change and sea level rise through the course LSO 247: Climate Change in Action – Halifax/Bay of Fundy.

All full-time students in any of the diploma, advanced diploma and degree programs are eligible to participate in this five-night, six-day trip to the region, supported by Brightspark by WorldStrides

  • Host Institution: Brightspark by WorldStrides

    Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia and the Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick

    Itinerary: To be provided during the information session on Wednesday, March 5 from 11 a.m. to noon

    Language of Instruction: English

    When: Summer 2025 Term

    • This is a Summer 2025 term credit course with a mandatory, in-person orientation class in week 1 followed by 6 weeks of online asynchronous learning prior to travel.
    • Travel dates: Saturday, June 21 to Thursday, June 26

    Application Deadline: Sunday, March 16. *Please note that applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and may close before the deadline if all seats are filled.


+Eligibility Requirements

 

  • Full-time students enrolled in a diploma, advanced diploma or degree program requiring a General Education or Liberal Studies course credit.
  • All students must attend an in-person orientation session at Newnham Campus in Week 1 of classes.
  • Open to domestic and international students
  • Have no hold or outstanding balance on the student account.

  • Week 1: Thursday, May 8, 4:30 to 7 p.m - Mandatory in-person orientation class at Newnham campus.
  • Week 2 - 7: Online, asynchronous learning
  • Week 8: Study Week Travel during Saturday, June 21 - Thursday, June 26

Travel itinerary:

  • June 21: Fly into Halifax, Halifax Harbour
  • June 22: Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Pier 21, Halifax Harbour Hopper Amphibious City Tour
  • June 23: Peggy’s Cove, Mahone Bay, Old Town Lunenburg (UNESCO site), Bluenose II
  • June 24: Halifax Citadel, Dalhousie University, Millbrook Cultural and Heritage Centre
  • June 25: Fundy National Park, Dickson Falls, Hopewell Rocks
  • June 26: Bore Park, Moncton Mural Tour

+Fees

 

Program fee: Regular course tuition plus travel costs of $3,200 CAD - $3,700 CAD approximately (depending on enrollment).

    • Included: round-trip airfare, accommodation, local travel, entry fees & site visits, guides, most meals.
    • Not included: course tuition fee, meals outside of program itinerary, personal travel to airport, souvenirs.
