FAQs

1. How do I access Student Hub and what is it?
Student Hub can be accessed through Teams. This is the central resource for Program and Field Placement information, requirements, forms, deadlines, and placement-related processes. Students should access Student Hub using the instructions provided by their Program Coordinator or Professor.
2. Can you tell me about Field Placement (FP)?
Please refer to the Student Hub for comprehensive information about Field Placement, including requirements, timelines, and processes.
3. What if I can't attend the FP Orientation Meeting?
  • Semester 3 students: the orientation will be posted in the course shell.
  • Semester 1 and 2 students: the orientation can be accessed through the Student Hub.
4. How do I access the FP Orientation Meeting?
Please refer to the Student Hub for orientation meeting access details.
5. Should I look for my own placement?
While we maintain partnerships and affiliation agreements with a variety of organizations, placement opportunities are not guaranteed. Students are encouraged and expected to take an active role in their placement search by identifying and applying to suitable opportunities. Securing a placement is a shared responsibility, and students should begin their search early and continue exploring opportunities throughout the placement process.
6. If I don't get accepted at the placement I find for myself, will I be offered another one?
Students should continue searching for placement opportunities if an organization does not accept their application. Placement opportunities cannot be guaranteed.
7. What if I can't get my documents completed in time through no fault of my own?
Each situation is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. If you are experiencing delays that are outside of your control, you should notify the appropriate support office as soon as possible and provide any available documentation regarding the delay. Depending on the circumstances and your program requirements, you may be advised to enroll in MOS512 by Week 2 of the semester. 
8. Can I get a hospital placement?
Placements are assigned based on host organization requests, availability, program requirements, and suitability. A hospital placement cannot be guaranteed.
9. What is the absolute last day to submit all requirements to begin placement?
Students should follow the deadlines published in Student Hub and placement communications. Missing deadlines may affect placement eligibility.
10. I work in a hospital. Do I still need to take this course?
Please contact PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition) to determine whether you may be eligible for credit or an exemption. This should be made prior to enrolling in MFP501. You can process this as soon as Semester 1 and Semester 2. 
11. What are the expectations during placement?
Students are expected to:
  • Arrive on time.
  • Attend all scheduled placement hours.
  • Plan ahead for transportation and scheduling issues.
  • Avoid requesting schedule changes or missed days except in exceptional circumstances.
  • Maintain professional conduct at all times.
All students prior to the start of placement will be provided with Professional Code of Conduct that will serve as your guide for your placement.
12. Can I use a police check I received before school started?
This depends on the age of the document and host organization requirements. Some hosts would prefer a document that is valid or obtained within the last 6 months. Students should review Student Hub requirements and placement communications.
13. I was told I cannot rush my Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) and I may not receive it in time.
Students should submit their application for the VSC as early as possible and retain proof of application. 
14. I found my own placement. What now?
Follow the self-placement approval process outlined in Student Hub and submit all required information for review.
15. I have a question about my medical forms. Who do I contact?
Please contact Synergy Helpdesk regarding medical form questions and requirements.
16. What is the VSC code?
VSC Code is given to students residing in Toronto. Please refer to Student Hub or the VSC instructions provided by the college for the current code and application details. 
17. I went to get my VSC from a region NOT from The City of Toronto and they want a letter. Where do I get one?

18. I failed a course. Am I still eligible for Field Placement?
Please contact Service Hub and speak with a Student Adviser regarding your eligibility.
19. Are placements paid or unpaid?
Most field placements are unpaid educational experiences unless otherwise arranged by the host organization.
20. Will I get to do all aspects of the job during placement?
Not necessarily. Learning opportunities vary by host site, supervisor, policies, and client needs.
21. The WSIB form asks for employer information, but I have not received a placement yet. What should I do?
Wait until placement details are confirmed or follow the instructions provided in Student Hub regarding incomplete placement information.
22. Can I do placement on days other than Thursdays?
Placement schedules depend on host organization availability and program requirements. Alternative schedules are not guaranteed. This will still be subject for an approval. 
23. I am a Semester 1 student and I have received an email from Synergy, what should I do?
If you plan to complete your field placement in your 3rd Semester, please activate your Synergy Account once you complete your 1st semester and as you enter your 2nd semester. You will be given further instructions during your placement orientation. 
24. I decided to swap my course from MFP501 to MOS512. What should I do?

You need to swap your course as soon as before Day 10 of the semester. Please refer to Seneca Important Dates and follow the steps posted on The Service Hub.

25. When can I start my placement?

You may only begin your placement after receiving confirmation from your Professor. Any placement hours completed before receiving this confirmation will not be counted. Confirmation is contingent upon the successful completion of all course requirements, including Synergy Clearance, assignments, and any other course-related requirements, as well as the completion of all required forms and documentation we requested from the placement host partner.

26. When is it appropriate to follow up with the Placement Team?

Due to the high volume of students requiring support, and because external placement coordination can take time, please allow sufficient time for our team to review and process requests before following up. Continue checking your Seneca email regularly for updates.

We appreciate your patience during this process. Please refrain from sending multiple follow-up emails, as this can increase administrative workload and may delay our ability to respond to students and placement partners efficiently. We will contact you as soon as there is an update regarding your placement.
