Recycling can be confusing since the acceptance criteria for products can change between cities and even buildings. This varies due to business or technology related differences between the waste and recycling processing facilities that waste is brought to.
At Seneca Polytechnic, we keep our waste program consistent across campuses to make it easier for you to follow.
At all our campuses, you will find tri-bins that let you properly dispose of your recycling, paper and garbage. When the quad-bins are available, the fourth bin is allocated for organics.
Based on our 2022 waste audit, Seneca recycled more than 546,500 kg., equivalent to the weight of 81 electric sedans. Reducing our waste overall, limiting contamination by putting our waste in the appropriate bin and ensuring we empty any liquid from our recyclables is important to increase the amount we recycle. Our goal is to reduce 30 per cent of our overall waste by 2030 but we need everyone’s support to do this.
Refer to the waste stations signage and the recycling guide to ensure that you dispose of your waste correctly.
Oscar, Seneca’s artificial intelligence waste-sorting system, is available at King, Newnham and Seneca@York campuses to help you sort your waste correctly. The system scans waste items and tells you what bin to put the item in. Email sustainability@senecapolytechnic.ca with any questions regarding our waste program.
