Seneca partners with Diabetes Canada, the City of Markham and the Township of King to provide textile donation bins on campus. The bins allow the Seneca community to donate unwanted clothing, bedding, towels, drapes, shoes and more to help divert textile waste from landfills.

Seneca’s School of Fashion is working to reduce the amount of unwanted clothing that ends up in landfills. Activities have included:
exhibitions by students throughout the academic year,
donation bins
diverse presentations on sustainability by industry experts
industry partnerships
a “pre-loved” section of clothing and accessories in The Boutique
clothing swap
the integration of sustainability in fashion programs.
In addition, various research involving students on textile waste has been done by Sabine Weber, Professor, School of Fashion. The research has increased our knowledge and understanding of consumer behaviour in regard to textile consumption and how consumers behave with discarding of their garments whether they recycle, upcycle or discard. This supports social and environmental responsibility by increasing awareness of the impacts of, and alternatives to, textile disposal in landfills.
