With the support of your Field Placement Mentor and Field Liaison, each placement is a learning experience.
During the first few days of placement, students are expected to observe, learn the routines and interact with children and adults under the guidance of the Field Mentor. The involvement should gradually increase and continue to grow throughout the semester. By the end of the semester, students are expected to demonstrate the course learning outcomes and competencies.
During Field Placement Seminars, students become familiar with the competencies that are expected to be demonstrated for their placement course. The competencies are outlined in the Evaluations (self and mentor). Each week, students are expected to self-reflect on progress and set goals for strengthening skills for the following week. Students and mentors communicate about goals, and students ask questions as necessary about performance, clarification of expectations, and/or strategies.
