The ECE Field Placement Mentor is a Registered Early Childhood Educator or Ontario Certified Teachers working at the student placement. Students in IMH or BCD community placements may have Mentors with varying qualifications.
Students shadow the Mentor in the day-to-day routines in the field placement setting. The Field Mentor provides students with feedback and supports students’ learning throughout placement.
Prior to field placement starting or on the first day of placement, the supervisor or mentor provides an orientation for the student. Orientation includes reviewing policies and procedures, a tour of the facility, and introduction to staff.
Each week, the student and mentor arrange time to review performance and set goals moving forward. The Field Placement Mentor provides the student with regular feedback, offers strategies and resources. The mentor and student arrange to meet to review and discuss the evaluations at midterm and final.
