As part of Grad Week, members of the Student Quality Assurance Council (SQAC) supported the Teaching and Learning Centre’s Curriculum Integration (CI) Awareness Booth at Seneca’s Newnham Service Hub.
Curriculum Integration (CI) is a key institutional initiative that embeds priority areas such as Truth and Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Sustainability, Human Skills, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) into academic programs. At the booth, we engaged directly with students to raise awareness of CI while also creating space for meaningful conversations about their academic experiences.
One of the most engaging aspects of the booth was a hands-on pin decorating activity, which helped attract students and spark conversations. While many students were initially drawn in by the activity, discussions quickly evolved into deeper reflections particularly around the role of AI in their courses.
Students were eager to share their perspectives, highlighting both positive experiences and gaps in how instructors are adopting and implementing AI tools in the classroom. These insights reinforced the importance of ensuring that emerging technologies are incorporated in a way that is both consistent and meaningful to student learning.
Being part of SQAC made a big difference in our interactions. Students seemed more comfortable opening up and sharing their honest opinions with us as their peers. It didn’t feel like a formal survey and more like real conversations.
Overall, the event was a valuable opportunity not only to promote awareness of Curriculum Integration, but also to amplify student voices and gather real-time insights – exactly the mandate of the SQAC.
