Accessible Learning Services

GETTING STARTED

If you are a student with a disability, or suspect that you may have a disability, we are here to support you. At Seneca Polytechnic, we are committed to working closely with you to develop a personalized accommodation plan that ensures you have the resources and support necessary for your academic journey.

To access accommodations and other ALS support services, new students must register with ALS. We offer a flexible and student-centered approach to registration, allowing you to choose between virtual or in-person appointments based on your preferences and needs.

During the registration process, you’ll have the opportunity to select how you'd like to access our services. Whether you have existing documentation or need assistance in gathering the necessary paperwork, ALS will guide you through every step of the process to ensure you have the appropriate support to thrive at Seneca.

Choose the access pathway that best suits your needs, and rest assured that we will provide the resources and accommodations that allow you to excel in your studies:

I am a student who:

πŸ”΄ suspects they have a disability but lack documentation and is struggling academically.

πŸ”΄ is unsure about the available supports and would like to gather information on how to obtain an assessment.

I am a student who:

πŸ”΄ prefers to not to meet directly with a counsellor and would like to receive an email with your accommodation plan and information on accessing supports and services.

πŸ”΄ has appropriate documentation regarding disability related needs.

I am a student who:

πŸ”΄ prefers direct interaction with the counsellor.

πŸ”΄ would like to ask questions and share your experiences and learn firsthand about the available supports and services.

If a new student selects an 'ALS: Digital Review’ but the Accessible Learning Services team determines that a meeting would be a more appropriate fit to properly plan and support your needs, you will be contacted to schedule an appointment.

If a new student selects an ‘ALS: First Appointment’ and they do not provide disability documentation, the Accessibility Counsellor will adjust the appointment to an ‘ALS: Consultation Appointment’ to obtain detailed historical information and assist you in obtaining fulsome documentation.

How to Register with Accessible Learning Services

We encourage you to begin the registration process as early as possible to ensure your accommodations are in place when needed.

You can register with Accessible Learning Services (ALS) once your Seneca Polytechnic identity and email address are activated. Please note that you will not be able to access the ALS: Student Portal without a valid Seneca email address.

While you can register at any point during your studies, to ensure accommodations for the current semester, it’s important to register by the specified deadlines.

SKILLS ASSESSMENT testing accommodations

Skills Assessment is a tool to determine academic placement for your math class during your first semester of studies. This assessment is done after you have confirmed your offer of admission. Students can request accommodations for this assessment by registering with ALS.

PRE-ADMISSIONS testing accommodations

Mature applicants applying to a certificate, diploma or advanced diploma program, who have not provided transcripts will be invited to write the mature applicant test(s) to meet English and/or mathematics requirements for their programs. Those requiring accommodations will need to email senecacnas@senecapolytechnic.ca to request an appointment with ALS.
